Washing Dishes

I dry the dishes, while Grandma washes

They are white, printed with tiny flowers

Grandma needs help getting the grime off

I take a wash cloth down off the shelf

and scrub and scrub and it helps

While we’re working

Grandma turns to me and says,

I love you, never doubt that

I smile and say, I love you, too

We take turns like in a relay race

I dry the dishes, while Grandma washes.
