Don Adams, Membership CoordinatorDon Adams has provided organizational and program development advice to cultural organizations nationally and abroad since 1978, based in Northern California, Washington, DC, and Seattle before moving to Kansas City. Don is completing a second Master's in Political Science (his first was in Arts Administration) at UMKC, his thesis being the core of a book on U.S. cultural policy. He has published many articles and three books on cultural policy and cultural development practice, and has spoken and taught in many settings, domestic and foreign. Mary Bunten, Executive DirectorAfter more than 20 years of work devoted to writing—including working for publisher W. W. Norton, as an editorial assistant for cookbook author Anne Willan, teaching for Writers in the Schools, and teaching creative writing at KU—Mary’s history with The Writers Place began in 2008. Since then she has been involved in every aspect of the organization, serving as a board member, board president, and as its Education Committee Chair. A native of Houston, Texas, Mary graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and has an MFA from the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program. She writes fiction. Rhiannon Ross, Program Coordinator Rhiannon has more than 20 years of experience in journalism, marketing and social media. She's received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Missouri Association for Social Welfare, the Missouri Press Association, and the Inland Press Association, and has published in newspapers, magazines, literary journals and online. She’s a member of the writing collective Vox Narro, which received a 2012-13 Andy Warhol Rocket Grant for the Visual Arts to share stories about Kansas City’s immigrant communities. A freelance writer, editor, poet and playwright, she teaches poetry workshops for In Our Own Words. Diane Stark, Public Liaison Affectionately known as “Science Woman” to her friends, Diane graduated from the University of Kansas and the University of Kansas Medical Center with BS degrees in cellular biology and medical technology; retiring from her 30-year career in medical and research laboratory science in 2012. Diane’s passion for literature and writing lead her to The Writers Place in April 2013 where she serves as a public liaison. With generous encouragement provided by The Writers Place community, Diane looks forward to experiencing her transformation from technical writer to creative writer.
