After-School Program - Write On Poetry!
Our ongoing after-school program allows students to develop relationships with professional writers and deepen their understanding of the craft of poetry. We provide a constructive, creative activity during a vulnerable time of day. Workshops are FREE to participants and take place throughout the year, whenever Kansas City, Missouri schools are in session. Workshops are Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Session leaders are Natasha Ria El-Scari and Theodore “Priest” Hughes. Natasha is a writer and educator who has received national recognition for her poetry. Priest is well known locally as part of spoken word duo The Recipe. All students will have the opportunity to publish work in our online blog and in a professionally printed workshop anthology. Students will produce this using equipment and software in The Writers Place’s computer lab. Sessions are free, but registration is required. To learn more, please email info@writersplace.org or call (816) 753-1090. Major funding for Write On Poetry! is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
